Final thoughts
The school year is over. Though everyone says this, I am truly amazed at how quickly it has gone by. Teaching is all together different than I thought it would be. As a frustrated college student, I finally decided on an education degree because I love to teach and I want to help people. There is something exciting about the idea of helping to shape and grow a young mind into a more educated and mature state. I remember the week before school looking at a class list and thinking 'I am going to hurt some feelings because it will take me awhile to memorize 21 names". It took me 1 day. Since that time I have had the unique opportunity to be a part of your children's lives in a deeper and more real way than I would have thought possible. I can honestly say I have seen each and every one of them laugh, cry, become angry, look confused, and every now and then I have seen that little light come on as new information and past schema connect- that mysterious moment where true understanding is born. I got to spend approximately 40 hours a week with your kids and in that time they shared with me the things that really mattered to them. A few of the more important things I learned are as follows:
1. A loose tooth is a big deal- whether you believe in the tooth fairy or not.
2. grades usually have no meaning until the day report cards go home- then they are very important.
3. there is an unspoken respect among 3rd graders, everyone cries sometimes- and that's ok.
4. Every word a teacher says will be analyzed, even if misheard.
5. At the end of the day, every kid wants to make some grown up proud.

I want to thank each and every one of you for allowing me to be a part of your children's lives this year. It was a wonderful first year of teaching. I feel I did many things well, and I know that I made quite a few mistakes. I want you to know that I never took my role in their lives lightly, and I pray that if nothing else eaeveryone in my class felt important and loved. I owe so many of you thanks for your communication with me, your support, and your patience. I have been so blessed by your kids. Make the most of your time, I am not a parent but I would imagine that like the school year, the time you have goes faster than you might think. Have a wonderful summer-

Hello all! As the rain pours outside we are still working very hard in the classroom. Our Taks test is coming up very quickly, please let me know if your child expresses stress over this test. It is an important assessment, however an assessment is all that it is! Our wonderful little third graders do not need to have ulcers due to Taks. Do your best to encourage your child to continue to do their best as we finish up this school year! We still have a lot of material to cover. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns, I will be happy to respond to emails or set up an appointment with you. My schedule is very busy, however your child is the most important aspect of my job at the end of each day.
Thank you for all of your help!

Your child should be taking his/her library books home to read.  Your child needs to be reading chapter books and taking AR tests on them.

Packet #19 Whales

Packet is due by Friday!!
February 1-5
The year continues to go by at break-neck speed. It is truly a blessing to be a part of your children's lives, to watch them learn and grow in so many different areas. As we come towards the end of the year we have assessments and so much more material to cover. I firmly believe that if you practice the basics and understand the fundamentals you will excel. We have begun our flex groups (in class tutorial time) which I am very excited about, but at the same time the students must be practicing at home any areas that they may struggle with. Daily reading, working basic math facts, and being able to share with you what they are learning is crucial for their understanding to become more concrete. The human brain is an incredible thing but we must intentionally put it to work!!! Feel free to contact me if you have any specific concerns about where your child is or what we are doing, my computer crashed last week but it is up and running and I am responding to many of your emails this week! Thank you for all your support! Have a great week.
